WPCA tore the wraps off the T20 premier tournament featuring the top eight Jeddah clubs which will be vying for the coveted CMDA Cup 2012.
After the round robin format eliminations, the top four teams advance into the semifinal. The balls used will be customary Red ones. The tournament is sponsored by Crown Steel Engineering, My Care & Hala, Dopco Engineers, AOT GFC and Hyundai.
In the first week, 3 matches were played. Dopco Stars asked Zultec to bat after winning the toss. Zultec began well with skipper Anis Malik making 45 in 21 balls followed by Afaq contributing 41 while Javed Iqbal hit 5 fours and a six to compile 62 in 32 balls to get to an impressive 186 for 5.
Skipper Shahbaz took 2-24 and a wkt each to Adnan, Shoaib Ali and Asim. Dopco Stars in response achieved the winning target of 187 for 5 in 110 balls through Nadeem smashing 58 in 28 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes, Asim 50 in 26 balls and Shoaib Ali 34. Wajahat Shah and Samer took identical 2-31.
Crown Steel chose to bat first against Islamic Development Bank (IDB). It racked up huge 209 for 8 through Jafar making impressive 41, Shafeeq 31, Aftab Khan 36 and Pervaiz 27. Shahid took 2-22, Yasser 2-43 and Nadeem 2-45 as Babar took one. IDB chasing this huge target was stranded at 178 for 9 after they had good start with Khalid Butt plundering 72 runs in 32 balls with 3 sixes and 10 fours and Ramazan making 43 and both of them added 90 runs for the first wkt in 42 balls as later Aijaz Mitha took 4 wkts for 23 while Anwaar had 2-20 and a wkt each to Aftab Khan and Abid Naseem.
Asian Advanced Plastic Factory (APF), using the track first against AOT GFC, racked up huge 206 for 4 through Awais making handsome 52 in 31 balls while Khurram Karamat stroked 43 in 33 as they stitched together 99 in 60 balls, while later Imran Ghani scored 32 and Maqsood unbeaten 43 in 23 balls.
AOT GFC also started promisingly with both the openers in awesome touch as Faisal Mehmood hit 60 in 23 balls with 10 fours and Ilyas scored 28 as they put on 103 runs for first wkt in 44 balls but later only Naeem Shah could score 25 to be stranded at 184 for 7 in 17 overs when play was stopped due to bad light. Awais grabbed 2-13, Arshad Ch. 2-28 and Jawad 2-38 while Nadeem had one.
