The tragic death of two youngsters in a road accident last month prompted the India Forum Jubail (IFJ) to raise awareness about defensive driving.
Mohammed Mansur, 17, and Abdullah Mansur, 11, sneaked out in their father’s four-wheeler and drove at high speed resulting in a deadly crash. The two died on the spot and were buried three days later.
The tragedy forced members of the well-knit Indian community in Jubail to create an awareness among the youngsters about the dangers of illegal and unsupervised driving.
The IFJ initiative was aimed at promoting the virtues of defensive driving. The workshop was meant for students of Grade 9-12 at the International Indian School-Jubail (IISJ) and also for their drivers. The initiative was supported by Nasser S. Al-Hajri Corp.
IISJ Principal Dr. Syed Hameed appreciated IFJ President Habibuddin Shaikh and his team for organizing the workshop. “We appreciate the idea behind such programs. Such programs are not included in our textbooks,” he said. “This is a timely and praiseworthy initiative.”
IISJ Vice Principal Naushad Ali said the event was dedicated to the two young boys who lost their lives.
Aziz Siddiqui, IFJ vice president, explained the reasons for holding the workshop and requested the students to take a pledge to adhere to the Kingdom’s rules and regulations regarding road safety.
Dilip Prabhakaran, safety manager at Nasser S. Al-Hajri Corp., gave an informative interactive presentation.
The IFJ executive members at the workshop included Shameer Ahamed, Mohammed Shibli, Anwar Khurshid, Jayan Thachampara and Mohammed Zubair Khan.
