AMMAN: Saudi Arabia and Jordan have decided to strengthen economic relations, promote joint action in all fields and exploit investment opportunities for their mutual benefits.
A joint statement issued Wednesday at the end of the visit of Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, second deputy premier and defense minister, to Jordan touched on the topics discussed by the two sides. The deputy crown prince visited Jordan at the invitation of King Abdallah on Tuesday.
Speaking about the excellent relations between the two countries, King Abdallah praised Saudi Arabia’s support over the years to the Jordanian economy and the Saudi contribution to its development.
During their talks, the two sides agreed on the importance of strengthening political, economic, military and security cooperation.
The two leaders stressed the importance of working together to fight terrorism, protect Islamic values and ensure the security of the region and its peoples. They stressed that the safety and security of Jordan and Saudi Arabia is one and the same.
On the issue of Syria, the two sides discussed ways to find a solution that ensures the safety and security of the Syrian people and their rights.
They also discussed the latest developments in Yemen and the efforts being made by the Saudi-led coalition to defend the brotherly people of Yemen and protect the country's security and stability. Humanitarian support for the Yemeni people also figured in the talks.
They stressed the need for international support for Jordan which is hosting a huge number of Syrian refugees that is putting a burden on the country's economy.
The two sides stressed the importance of Iraq’s unity, security and the need to involve all the stakeholders in the political process to bolster the country's defense, build its institutions and preserve its independence.
Saudi Arabia and Jordan condemned Iran’s attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of Arab countries aimed at destabilizing them. They said such a move was contrary to all international norms and conventions and it smacked of Tehran's attempt to establish its hegemony in the region.
The two sides also stressed the importance of moving ahead in the peace process on the basis of the Arab peace initiative and UN resolutions to fulfill the aspirations of the Palestinian people who are fighting to obtain their legitimate rights and establish their independent state.
