Thunderstorms, strong winds, cold spell forecast for Riyadh

RIYADH: The Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME) has forecast thunderstorms, strong winds and a significant drop in temperature for Riyadh and other regions over the next few days.
The regions to be affected include Qassim and the highland areas of Asir, Baha and Jazan. The PME stated that surface winds on the Red Sea would be southerly to southwesterly over the southern part, and westerly and northerly over the northern and central parts at about 22 to 42 km per hour, with one- to two-meter waves on moderate to rough seas.
The Civil Defense has urged the public to take precautions and not stay out late in desert areas. People should also follow weather reports issued by the PME, it stated.
The temperature in Riyadh has dropped to about 15 degrees Celsius at night and expected to hit 11 degrees over the next few days. The maximum temperature has fallen to about 28 degrees Celsius during the day.
Many families were seen in shopping malls purchasing winter clothing. Some shops have also announced winter sales in a bid to lure shoppers. Riyadh residents are happy with the pleasant weather and enjoying the onset of winter.
Abdul Mutalib Mohammad, a Saudi citizen, said he enjoys the cold morning breeze and the pleasant temperatures during the day.
Faiz Ahmad, an Asian expatriate, said it is a welcome change in the weather as it heralds the onset of winter.
