TAIF: Terrorists can carry out reconnaissance missions in the guise of beggars, even wearing the abaya, and pose a serious threat to the security of the nation, an expert has warned.
“Begging is a bad phenomenon anyway. However, it can pose a serious danger if terrorists disguised as beggars recce sensitive installations or mosques for targeting them,” Saleh bin Saleh Faris Al-Zahrani, a former Shoura Council member, was quoted as saying by local media on Saturday
For instance, he said, individuals seen begging at locations in different parts of Taif look like members of professional gangs. “These people or their profession could be used for criminal activity, even terrorism.”
A government committee consisting of representatives from Social Affairs, police, special forces, the municipality and Haia has been fighting the scourge of begging.
