KABUL: Afghan authorities say floods in northern Badakhshan province have killed 13 people.
Abdul Marouf Rasekh, the provincial spokesman, said on Saturday that three to four days of heavy rains caused the flooding in at least five districts. He says the 13 people died Friday night in Yaftal district — the area most affected.
Dozens of houses have been destroyed, along with hundreds of hectares of farmland. Authorities say the flooded areas are in need of emergency food and other aid.
In Jalalabad, the provincial capital of Nangarhar in the east, a bomb exploded at a music store on Saturday.
Provincial spokesman Ahmad Zia Abdulzai says the shopkeeper and one of his customers were killed in the blast and that two other people were wounded.
