As the title suggests, Saudi Chefs is a show about Saudi cuisine and its history. Two fun and funky Saudi chefs Yousef Khumayes and Hani Zainin present the show.
In addition, a young Saudi nutritionist Lama Sultan provides tips on health. The end result is a healthy and authentic Saudi show. It promises to make cooking fun and interesting for OSN viewers this Ramadan, making the holy month all the more special.
It all started when producer Ahmed Sahab thought up the idea of producing a cooking program. He started developing ideas until he came up with Saudi Chefs.
“Choosing Saudi cuisine specifically was a decision made by the whole team. Saudi Arabia has a broad range of cuisine due to the fact that people from all over the world have set up home here bringing with them their traditions and cooking recipes. Many unique dishes have been part of our culture for so long that several of them have been adapted and are now classed as unique Saudi dishes,” he said.
“Every episode is about 30 minutes long and it takes longer to prepare each episode and even more time for post production, but it’s a great experience for all involved. Let me share a secret with you, that after each shoot we all get to eat the delicious dishes the chefs prepare,” he added.
According to the producer the program is being aired during Ramadan, as it is a time we associate with fine food. “People like to reinvent dishes, create healthy dishes and learn new cooking methods during the holy month. We wanted to present dishes that everyone knows and are familiar with in different and healthier ways, experimenting with new ingredients and elements never used before. It was the perfect time to launch this show on OSN Yahala!” he said.
The main characters Zain and Khumayes set the bar for making a show about cooking interesting and very entertaining. Their spontaneous behavior, not to mention their expertise in healthy eating and including the right tips on making each dish healthy as well as delicious.
“OSN loved the show concept and we worked closely with them to ensure OSN viewers enjoy it. During each episode a recipe is demonstrated and the history of the dish is explored, making it interesting and intriguing at the same time,” said Sahab.
Chef Khumayes believes healthy food can be tastier than traditional food and part of the art of creating dishes is in using different ingredients. “You will see how Hani and I use creative ways of cooking to bring you a healthier dish served in a new and exciting way,” he said.
When asked how the two chefs come together to present the program, Chef Zain said they met on the program “Top Chef” about a year ago. He took third place while Khumayes took fourth. “After that our friendship developed, we took part in several projects and started talking about our dream to have our own show. I would like to thank OSN for trusting us, believing in our abilities and talents and giving us this opportunity to present our program on OSN Yahala!” he said.
The show promises viewers a surprise with each episode. “There are prizes to be won through our Facebook page, so visit the page (Saudi Chefs), participate to win and have fun while learning more about Saudi cuisine,” said Sahab.
Watch the show on OSN Yahala! at 13:00 KSA during Ramadan.
