Commerce and Industry Minister Tawfiq Al-Rabiah opened yesterday the 46th session of the GCC Commerce Ministers’ meeting at the GCC premises in Riyadh.
The minister expressed hope the meeting would yield positive results that could boost joint business works between the GCC member states.
Abdullah bin Juma Al-Shabali, assistant general secretary of the GCC for Economic Affairs addressed the meeting on behalf of the GCC Secretary General Dr. Abdulatif Al-Ziayni.
He voiced hope the meeting would realize GCC economic citizenship, boost the process of cooperation and achieve aspirations of the GCC citizens.
The Commercial Cooperation Committee has effectively contributed to the success made by the GCC in its efforts to achieve GCC economic citizenship, GCC common market, and application of equality between the GCC citizens in practicing business activities, he said. He said the committee played a pivotal role in setting up specialized GCC bodies such as the Standardization Authority, the Commercial Arbitration Center and the Accounting and Auditing Authority.
Is also had a key role in coordinating between the private and public sectors through its supervision of joint meetings between the GCC secretariat and heads and members of GCC chambers of commerce.
The next stage requires more efforts by the Committee for plans to unify laws and measures to regulate business activity , intensify joint works for protection of consumers in the GCC countries, realization of food security and curbing price hikes of basic commodities, he said.
The agenda of the meeting will include a series of topics, most importantly draft laws on competition and combating commercial fraud in the GCC countries, he was quoted by Saudi Press Agency as saying.
