Governor to visit Qunfudah, Laith

Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal will today visit Qunfudah and Laith in the southern parts of Makkah Province.
This will be the seventh and last leg of his annual tour of the regions.
He has so far visited Jammoum, Rabigh, Jeddah, Khulais, Al-Kamil, Taif, Tarabah, Al-Khurmah and Ranyah.
Prince Khaled will travel by car to Qunfudah and Laith using the Western Sahel road. His round trip will cover more than 800 km under searing temperatures of close to 50 degrees Celsius.
The director of the department of studies and public relations at the governorate, Sultan Al-Dousary, said in Qunfudah the governor will meet with members of the local council, dignitaries of the region and heads of government departments to listen to their demands and requests before proceeding to Laith with a similar itinerary.
He said the governor, who traveled by land to all the 11 regions, has crossed more than 3,000 km.
He added: “During his visits to the region, Prince Khaled Al-Faisal will be able to make a firsthand assessment of the execution of development projects.”
Al-Dousary said the governor’s annual tours were considered important indicators about ongoing development projects and whether they were being properly executed or not.
He said the governorate had established a special program to follow up the implementation of projects in the province. “The program will enable officials and citizens to find out all about the development projects and if they were being executed on time or whether they were facing delays and other problems.”
The citizens of Qunfudah are expected to ask the governor to approve a number of development projects for their region including a sewage network, a passport department to issue and renew passports for Saudi citizens, a university campus and turning the branch of the Ministry of Agriculture into an autonomous directorate due to the region’s huge fish and animal resources.
During the governor’s previous visit to Qunfudah a number of development projects were being implemented.
They included 593 homes for low-income citizens, expansion of Sahel Road by adding three lanes on each side, a fishing harbor, Corniche, commercial seaport and potable water network.
The development projects in Qunfudah also included a high school for girls, desalinated water at a daily capacity of 9,000 cubic meters, a maternity hospital and others.
The citizens of Al-Laith are expected to demand quicker construction of the seaport, an extension of the desalinated water network and a sewage network.
The demands, to be presented by the local council and the dignitaries, will also include asphalting of roads, two health centers in the villages of Bani Yazeed and Jadam and improving the city’s general hospital.
