Nasser Mohammed Al-Othman, secretary-general of the Gulf Press Association (GPA), unveiled the association’s plans to organize a series of programs and activities aimed at improving the talents and skills of media professionals in the Gulf.
“As part of realizing the GPA’s goals, a GCC press forum will be held in Kuwait in the near future. Advanced training programs will also be organized for journalists from the GCC member countries and Yemen,” he said in a press briefing.
Al-Othman said the GPA was able to make its presence felt at Arab and global levels. The GPA general secretariat has approved a series of activities aimed at realizing its objectives. These included the GCC press forum, which will be organized in cooperation with the Kuwait Journalists Association.
“We will also strive to achieve unity of various journalists’ associations in the member countries. A wide variety of programs and activities such as intensive training programs to improve the capabilities of media professions will be held,” he said, underscoring the significance of keeping pace with technological advancements and the latest developments in the field of media.
The third GPA conference was held recently in Manama. About 40 editors in chief from various local newspapers in the GCC states and Yemen participated in the conference. The two-day event decided to set up an annual GPA Prize, details of which will be announced soon. The Manama-based GPA is a nonpolitical and nonprofit umbrella organization of journalists’ organizations, societies, foundations and syndicates from the six GCC states and Yemen.
