Grain Silos II proved that they are the strongest team when they won 90-79 against the hardworking Al-Sorayai II in Game 3 of the best-of-three championship series in the Strong Division finals in the recent 2012 Perfetto Basketball Tournament organized by Industrial Sports Association and in cooperation with Industrial City Dawah Office (ICDO) court in Industrial City Phase I on the outskirts of Jeddah.
Aries Macaspac was named MVP, scoring 28 points, but the most important thing was his intensity and determination to win every single game since the eliminations as he assumed the lead role in bringing home the championship trophy for Grain Silos II.
Macaspac and company took the series opener but Al-sorayai II bounced back in Game 2 and forced a do-or-die match.
GS II supporting cast made great impact on defense and in scoring. Joseph Bautista, awarded as Best Forward, scored 17, Reynald Abubo was Best Center scoring 8 and displaying tenacity in rebounding.
McNill De Guzman scored 19, Roman Serrano scored 9 and Edward Razon had a great night with 11 points to go with his three crucial blocked shots when Sorayai II rallied in the third and fourth canto to erase what was once GS II’s 20-point lead.
Best Forward Vargas had 17. Best Guard Ave Arevalo also had a great series. Mendoza enjoyed magnificent Game 3 for Sorayai II but his effort fell short against the fired up GS II boys and the hardworking playing coach of Sorayai II, Allan Pacla, was hardly a factor fouling out after scoring 8 points.
Sacramento brought home the MVP award with 20 points as Butler swept the series 2-0 and crowned champions when they drowned Arifco 72-66 in Game 2 of the best-of-three series in Battle of the Champions Division finals.
In bestowing the MVP to Sacramento ISA not only considered his finals performance but his overall showing since the start of the league as well.
Greason was named Best Center and Torres Best Guard, as the duo combined for 16 points to support and help Butler to win its first title.
Best Forward Jimenez scored only 8 points, while Estrella, adjudged Best Guard, tallied 10.
Dagohoy and Bien combined for 39 points for Arifco and tried to match up in the final quarter but then the enemy’s balanced scoring and ability to make the big plays made the difference.
The championship games brought down the curtain on the four months long tournament. Present during the awards ceremony was ISA consultant-adviser Mohamed Bayoumi, the friend of the Filipino community and recipient of Presidential Banaag Award who helped ISA Vice president Mohammad Erandio hand out the awards.
