The Gulf Press Federation will open its third congress in Manama today (Wednesday) with more than 40 editors in chief of the main newspapers in the Arab Gulf region participating, Secretary-General of the federation Nasser Mohammed Al-Othman announced. The Bahraini Authority of Media Affairs (BAMA) will sponsor the conference.
Al-Othman said the opening session would be held at the Gulf Hotel and would be attended by BAMA Chairman Sheikh Fawwaz bin Muhammad Al-Khalifa, State Minister for Media Affairs in Bahrain Sameera Rajab, and a number of officials, diplomats, journalists and media men.
He said the opening session included a speech by Chairman of the federation Turki bin Abdullah Al-Sudairy, BAMA chairman, secretary-general of the federation, and chairman of the Council of Gulf International Relations (COGIR) Tariq Al-Shami, who will present the council's award to the Gulf media personality of the year.
Al-Othman said the agenda of the conference included the creation of an annual press award in the name of the federation and the establishment of a forum for Gulf women journalists during this year at which they will discuss among themselves and with the concerned government and private officials matters related to the work of women in journalism, their hopes and aspirations and obstacles in their way.
Al-Othman said the agenda also included topics pertaining to the performance and activities of the federation.
He said today's program would include a number of important official meetings and private activities consisting of an exhibition for the founders and pioneers of journalism in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
