A terror suspect, accused of planning to hijack a plane from Riyadh’s King Khaled International Airport, refused to meet his father in the courtroom yesterday. When the three-member panel of judges, trying terror suspects in Riyadh, ordered the father of Defendant No. 21 brought into the courtroom, the suspect said that he did not want to meet him.
The reason for this was his anxiety over the deteriorating health conditions of his father. The defendant, together with three suspects, had allegedly plotted to hijack a foreign aircraft from Riyadh airport. He was one among 10 suspects who were on trial yesterday.
After the public prosecutor read out charges against 10 suspects, nine urged the judges to issue orders to release them and continue their trial while they are free. The 10th suspect sought to remain in jail. Reacting to their demand, the judge ruled that the release of any suspect will be based on justice.
The public prosecutor leveled 23 charges against Defendant No. 26, and these included buying three machine guns and a revolver, recruiting several people to the terror cell, attempting to kidnap a government official and taking part in the plot to hijack a plane.
The charges against Defendant No. 27 included giving shelter to wanted terrorists, holding theory classes on using mines for new terror recruits outside the Kingdom, setting up a training camp for terrorists in addition to terror funding.
