Joey Hood has assumed duties as the new consul general at the US Consulate in Dhahran. He replaces Timothy J. Pounds.
Hood called on a number of officials, including the National Guards chief in the Eastern Province, this week.
Prior to assuming his duties in Dhahran, Hood was acting director of the office of Iranian affairs at the State Department in Washington, D.C.
Hood has also served in Riyadh, where he coordinated US-Saudi military cooperation.
He also served at the US Embassy in Sanaa, where he contributed to the ambassador’s efforts to push for political and economic reforms.
As public affairs officer in Doha, he strove to convey US policy to Arab audiences on Al Jazeera television and, with Qatar Foundation International, helped establish the first US-Qatari “sister school” program.
Hood was a Fulbright scholar in Burkina Faso and worked at a bank in Vermont before joining the Foreign Office. He has a master’s degree from the Fletcher School at Tufts University and a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College.
