Hudaibiyah Treaty

This refers to the article “Hudaibiyah: Grand victory in Islamic history” (March 8) by Abu Tariq Hijazi.
An informative article, it reveals that patience and steadfastness bring about positive result. The peace treaty, which the Qur’an terms as “a manifest victory,” was reached following a series of events. The Quraish as a consequence of this treaty virtually dropped their claim to religious leadership. The treaty brought victory to Muslims due to peace agreement as within a span of two years, twice as many people entered Islam than ever before.
At the time of Hudaibiyah the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had 1400 men with him, but when he set off to conquer Makkah after two years, he had 10,000 men. The treaty also halted the hostilities for the next 10 years thus breaking the false pride of the Quraish and its allies. — Anees Lokhande, Alkhobar
