Hudson, Janish lead Braves past Giants 7-1

SAN FRANCISCO: Tim Hudson pitched seven strong innings for his seventh consecutive victory and Paul Janish tripled home two runs to help the Atlanta Braves beat the San Francisco Giants 7-1 on Sunday.
Jason Heyward, Freddie Freeman and Juan Francisco homered for the Braves, who won their second straight after losing six of seven. Martin Prado and Brian McCann also drove in runs for the NL wild-card leaders.
Hudson (13-4) gave up five hits and beat the Giants for the sixth straight time. He walked one and struck out three. The right-hander has not lost since July 1.
Tim Lincecum (7-14) lasted five innings, allowing three runs and seven hits. He walked two and struck out four.
Marlins 6 Dodgers 2: In Los Angeles, Rob Brantly gave Miami the lead for good with his first major league home run, and the Marlins also got long balls from Giancarlo Stanton, Jose Reyes and Carlos Lee to beat the revamped Los Angeles Dodgers 6-2 on Sunday in the finale of an 11-game road trip.
Mark Buehrle (12-11) won his third straight start, allowing a run and six hits in 5 2-3 innings with four strikeouts and three walks. He escaped a bases-loaded jam in the fifth by retiring Hanley Ramirez on a popup and Andre Ethier on a grounder with the Marlins holding a 3-1 lead.
Ethier singled home a run in the seventh, but was called out for interference moments later after making incidental contact with Lee at first base on a popup by Luis Cruz that was dropped by catcher Brantly just inside the first base line.
Cubs 5 Rockies 0: In Chicago, Chris Volstad ended a 24-start winless streak Sunday, allowing three hits in 6 2-3 strong innings for his first victory in 13 months as the Chicago Cubs beat the Colorado Rockies 5-0 in a game shortened to eight innings by rain.
Volstad (1-9), acquired from Miami for Carlos Zambrano, earned his first win since he beat Houston while pitching for the Marlins on July 10, 2011. The major league record for consecutive winless starts is 28, shared by Jo-Jo Reyes, Matt Keough and Cliff Curtis.
Volstad was taken out to an ovation in the seventh after former Cub Tyler Colvin doubled with two outs and Chris Nelson walked. Manny Corpas then retired Jonathan Herrera on a fielder’s choice grounder to end the threat.
Brewers 7 Pirates 0: In Pittsburgh, Mark Rogers allowed three hits over five innings, Carlos Gomez and Aramis Ramirez homered and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-0 on Sunday.
The Brewers won for the fifth time in six games. The Pirates have lost five of six.
Rogers (2-1) won six days after picking up his first victory in the majors. He walked three and struck out five, throwing 101 pitches.
Manny Parra pitched the sixth and seventh, Jose Veras struck out three around a walk in the eighth and Kameron Loe closed out the Brewers’ sixth shutout.
Erik Bedard (7-14) lasted only 4 2-3 innings. He leads the majors in losses.
