India is above petty incidences

India is above petty incidences

This refers to Aijaz Zaka Syed’s well-attempted piece to synchronize Dec. 6 Babri Masjid demolition anniversary, marked as ‘Black Day’ for Indian secularism.
Although not an erudite writing, it lacks balanced viewpoint, in-depth insight, proper research, historic references and authentic linkage. India cannot be simply judged by ill-fated events like Gujarat pogrom, Mumbai riots, demolitions and attacks on religious sites, bomb blasts or any such designed, planned and maneuvered actions of enemies of our mother land.
We are far above such events and incidences! India is a great country, a ‘golden sparrow’ with greatness bestowed by nature to the land and upon the citizens, a land of devout Muslims and great poets, of scholars and mathematicians, and many more.
Good and bad people are there in every country, race, and religion, but that does not mean that the spirit of nationalism and allegiance to the motherland be compromised. Let us rise above these weak arguments and strive to build a society of inclusivity on the basis of equality, freedom of religion, respect of humanity while promoting and preserving the most valuable resources of the world ‘human mind.’ Saare jahan say achcha Hindustan hamara – and we have to treasure this very distinct spirit of our nation by being broad minded, knowledgeable and pragmatic above any exclusivity of religion, color, cast and creed and gender discrimination! May Allah Almighty bless all of us, our country and the whole world, Ameen! — Iqbal Azim, by e-mail
