This is in response to the column “Time for India and Pakistan to grow up” by Aijaz Zaka Syed. I think the author has completely missed the point. While the killing of the soldiers in Kashmir has been happening for some time, beheading is completely unacceptable. This suggests either barbarism on the part of Pakistani soldiers or letting the “non-state actors” carry this act out.
Ever since the partition of India, the Pakistani forces have been invading the Indian territories on Kashmir border but Pakistan has always denied any official involvement, be it Kargil or Mumbai.
How long can India continue to witness ongoing killings of its citizens at the hands of forces emanating from our neighborhood?
I have been an ardent supporter of India-Pakistan peace but I think we now have to teach Pakistan a lesson.
Even to a stable Pakistan is in India’s interest, I think we can still survive with an unstable Pakistan. Let’s not forget out national honor for the sake of stability of someone else who doesn’t want to be stable. This is not a question of a party or religious organization but all of us. You can help only those who will help themselves. — Sushrut Patil, By e-mail
