JEDDAH: The Consulate General of India yesterday announced the appointment of a separate officer to deal with issues related to the community, including registration of deaths and repatriation of deportees.
The new officer is S.R.H. Fahmi who recently joined the consulate as consul (community welfare).
He will handle matters relating to repatriation of Indian nationals from deportation centers; registration of deaths of Indian nationals; issue of No Objection Certificate; disposal of mortal remains by quick local burial or transportation to India; counseling and corresponding with the family members of Indian nationals involving death compensation; pursuing death compensation claims in public courts in various cities on behalf of the next of kin; realization of death compensation claims from Saudi authorities and repatriation of the same to India to the next of kin; and matters relating to providing relief under Indian Community Welfare Fund.
P.K. Jain, consul (labor), will handle matters relating to labor and employment issues, settlement of labor disputes between Indian nationals and Saudi sponsors, pursuing cases in labor courts and counseling Indian workers regarding employment matters.
Fahmi is an Honors graduate from the University of Calcutta.
