Parents seeking to send their children to the Indian International School’s KG section for the academic year 2013-2014 can make an application starting today. Applications must be made via the school’s website, www.iisjed.com. The window for applications ends on Saturday, Feb. 16.
Applicants will receive a reference number and admission will be decided by lottery. The lottery system was introduced to create transparency in the admissions process and thus avoid allegations of nepotism and favoritism.
The lottery for LKG will be held on Feb. 21 at 4:30 pm while the lottery for UKG will be held at the Boys Section of the school in the Rehab district at the same time.
In a significant development, school authorities decided not to admit Indian students living in Makkah into the lower grades, apparently out of concern of the daily commute on young students.
Increasing demand for spots in the lower grades have strained the school’s capability to accommodate all applicants and officials estimate that only about 10 percent of applicants will gain admission.
Applicants for first grade must be, at least, five years old, while four is the minimum age for UKG and three for LKG.
The Jeddah location is the only of the three Indian schools in the Kingdom to experience the overcrowding problem. Branches in Dammam and Riyadh operate without such pressure. In addition to space problems in the lower grades, higher grades are also crowded as classes fill up with those who are being promoted, leaving precious little space for new students.
