Inter-Hotels: Ritz Carlton beats InterCon, Sheraton downs Faisaliah

Ritz Carlton downed a surprisingly tough InterContinental 74-68 while Sheraton Riyadh looked to have the number of defending champion Al Faisaliah with an 80-75 victory in the semifinal round in the 25th Annual Riyadh Inter-Hotels Basketball Tournament 2012 at the Sheraton Riyadh Hotel & Towers rubberized court. Amr Gado’s Ritz Carlton boys rebounded following a loss in their first game of the semis against Al Faisaliah to beat Sheraton Riyadh 65-55 and Intercon.
Chowking Yee, Jaypee Tulao, Clarkton Browly, Dencio Barnachea, and Leonardo Choco powered Ritz Carlton boys to a 12-point first half lead 38-26. Ritz Carlton with Marvin Gabao, Juniver Manalo, Ian guarin, Albert Coronia and Clark Moreno joining the fray, continued its domination to close the last quarter of the low scoring game 65-55.
Friday match saw Jess Lumanog’s Sheraton Riyadh boys defeat Al Faisaliah for the second time now in the thrilling see-saw battle in the semis.
Rookies Jay-R de Guzman, Thomas Frias and Erano Campo along with mainstays Anthony Concepcion and Marvin Casubuan, Allan delos Reyes, Joney Calibo and Sotero Espiritu had Sheraton in control from first to last quarter marked by seven deadlocks.
In the fifth game of the four team semifinal round, Ritz Carlton stopped the aggressiveness of Riyadh InterCon 74-68 to force a triple tie with Faisaliah and Sheraton on a 2-1 win-loss record. In the quotient system to break the tie Ritz Carlton has +4, Faisaliah +1 and Sheraton –5.
That gave Faisaliah the chance to defend its title in a best-of-three championship series starting tomorrow against Ritz Carlton, while Sheraton and InterCon clash in a knockout game for third and fourth.
Meantime, the Inter-Company Non Rated hostilities will start today, according to organizers.
The tournament for the benefit of the Children of UNICEF enjoys the generous support of Paul C. Dunphy, Sheraton Riyadh Hotel & Towers GM; and Sizzler House through Randy Assistin.
