ISA-FBL regional basketball event set next month

Two major basketball groups in Jeddah are joining forces to bring a full regional basketball exhibition event in the Industrial City.
In the past years visiting teams from Riyadh and Dammam have dovetailed their regional commitments in the town and Industrial area.
That will no longer be the case during the ISA and FBL Eid El Fitr Invitational Cup regional basketball exhibition that will showcase skills of the biggest names in Filipino basketball in the Kingdom.
The two-day event is set for Aug. 20 and 21 at the Industrial City Dawah Office (ICDO) court in Industrial City Phase I on the outskirts of Jeddah.
The idea to have the regional staged outside of Jeddah was conceived about a month ago during a meeting between ISA (Industrial Sports Association) and Filsama Basketball League (FBL) heads Eric Abrantes and Abdulmoen “Teng” Laguialam.
After the first meeting, Laguialam then contacted the teams from Riyadh and Dammam. In no time the two sides gave their commitment to get the ball rolling in the preparations for the regional being hosted for the first time by ISA including the dissemination of information via the social media networks.
Riyadh will be represented by Laguna Lakers Cargo and Dammam by FAEC (Fahad Alireza Engineering Consultants). To complete the four-team cast are the popular ballclubs in Jeddah namely Friendster and Shadow Lounge-Carrier Juffali.
Last week, the FBL committee members made an ocular inspection of the venue. This was followed by a joint ISA-FBL meeting at a local restaurant on Wednesday where each side made a progress report related to the next month’s big project.
ISA adviser Noy “Jordan” Lofamia assured Laguialam in Wednesday’s meeting that improvements are to be made at the venue including construction of additional eight stands in order to accommodate more people to the games.
Also in attendance during the meeting were Rene Valle, Manny Manalo, Boy Raras, Kirt Einstein and Jayson Santillan from FBL and Charlot Villafuerte, Egay Magnaye, Ken Anga Angan, Rashid Guelas, Goody Viagedor and Joel Abrantes.
