Islamabad protest

After successful negotiations between the government side and Tahirul Qadri, a four-day long sit-in protest in the heart of Islamabad ended peacefully. The agreement has been termed as the “Islamabad Long March Declaration.” I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the people of Pakistan on the positive outcome of the long march. Some section of media was wrongly predicting that the military would once again stage a coup in Pakistan.
However, their hopes and wishes did not come true. With an independent Judiciary firmly in place, a very vibrant media and most of all the people of Pakistan, who are now well aware of their rights, no unconstitutional move is possible now. This agreement will go a long way in bringing about massive electoral reforms in Pakistan. All is well that ends well. Well done Pakistan. — Babar Mumtaz, By e-mail
