The joint preparatory committee for the 8th Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers in the Kingdom scheduled for 2013 was held at the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (ISESCO) headquarters in Rabat recently.
The joint meeting, attended by delegations from the Ministry of Culture and Information, Madinah Islamic University, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Center for Dialogue Among Followers of Religions and Cultures and the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, discussed the conference’s agenda.
The meeting also dealt with organizational and academic arrangements and issues and matters to be submitted to the Muslim world’s culture ministers, most notably progress reports on the implementation of ISESCO’s strategies and projects.
The meeting also discussed progress reports by ISESCO’s director general on the implementation of the cultural strategy for the Islamic world and the strategy for cultural action outside the Islamic world.
The meeting reviewed arrangements and activities to mark Madinah being selected as the Arab region’s 2013 capital for Islamic culture.
The prime objective behind the celebration is to highlight the holy city’s religious and cultural contributions in the course of Islamic civilization, with special focus on introducing its renowned scholars as well as religious and historical monuments, ISESCO said.
A number of activities focusing on the city’s cultural and historical heritage and scholarly institutions will be organized to celebrate the occasion, it added.
