Jasa and Funtilon champions in FEDBG Anniversary Bowlfest

JEDDAH: Ver Jasa and Grace Funtilon etched their names in the history of FEDBG when they snatched titles after three action-packed championship games during the the Filipino Expatriate Damayan Bowling Group Anniversary Bowlfest 2012 at the Bowling City here.
Second to the last after cut-off, Jasa totaled 2965 in the regular qualifying period and got on board as the last Class D finals qualifier with 688 behind top finisher Med Ramos (782) and Carling Constantino (708).
Jun de Dios, Nards Hassan and Rod Lofamia failed to advance with 676, 675 and 651.
Making the Class C finals were Rolly Vistal, Fred Cuenca, Rudy Jamon and Joel Calapatia. Emil Payongayong, Rene Martinez, Bobby Baraquel and Edu Toledo qualified from Class B, while Ding dela Rosa, Zaldy Bacero, Ric Reformado and Jun Estefano progressed from group OA.
All semifinal survivors joined direct finalists Roger Daquioag, Marcelo Manalo, Jimmy Aragones, Edris Mangoda and Richard Antonio.
During the three-game, 20-bowler finals, Vistal led after the first game on 253 followed by Jasa, Cuenca, Reformado and Ramos on 237, 227, 221 and 221 respectively.
Jasa seized top spot with 454 after two games as he shot a 216 with defending champion Bacero right behind him with 442 after a 240.
Reformado took third at 437, Vistal slid to fourth at 436 while Calapatia clung to fifth with 425.
Halfway through the final game, Bacero almost drew level as Jasa left an open frame and the title holder had a turkey.
But Jasa hung tough to finish at 212 scratch that gave him a three-game total of 690 including handicap and the title over Bacero who settled for second place on 654.
Reserved qualifier Calapatia totaled 548 in third place, Vistal with 635 claimed fourth position and Reformado ranked fifth with 631.
Funtilon had her an easier road, pulling away with an opening 257 from Aileen Miralbuna, Malou Gime, May Lourdes and Malou Nidoy who respectively started with 206, 180, 173 and 156.
Shooting 182 in the second game, Funtilon kept top position with 459. Miralbuna was on 399, Nidoy 348, Lourdes 341 and Gime 321.
The last game saw Funtilon and Miralbuna trade strikes till they finished on 236 and 231.
Funtilon had a winning three-game series of 695 on the distaff side. Miralbuna was first runner-up on 630. Nidoy, Gime and Lourdes ranked third, fourth and fifth respectively.
In the sudden death special event, Ester Santoc topped the race with four-games series of 797 followed by Shirley Sagmit 772 and Maricar Victorino 748. Provision Trading Company supported the tournament by providing consolation prizes of Makati Food gift packs through Brand Manager Roberto Bato.
