Juffali Carrier downs KFAFH Selection 104-98

Juffali Carrier warmed up for the best-of-three series for the Inter-Commercial Open Rated championship against Nunungan Lanao Lakers by beating KFAFH Selection 104-98 in an exhibition game for a cause last Thursday at the Ahmed Khaki Sports Complex (Orca) court here.
The two-game exhibition for the benefit of a cancer-stricken child raised a total of SR 4,418 from its proceeds, according to WPBL Commissioner Frank James Roxas.
It was a split for KFAFH having won the first game against Jeddah Selection 85-83 the previous week.
Carrier took control of the game in the fourth quarter with the tall Matias going on to claim Best Player of the game honors with 33 points.
Carrier and Nunungan faced off last night in the first game of the series.
Greenland brought down Nexus 99-95 in the fourth game Friday to set up a mouth-watering battle of the unbeatens against Nesma Holdings in the Inter-Commercial Open Non-Rated C in the 1st Friendi Basketball Tournament presented by all new WPBL.
It was the sixth straight victory for Greenland which will go for a twice-to-beat advantage in the game against Nesma (4-0).
Greenland’s Palo with 34 points was named Best Player.
In the fifth game Friday, Shadow Lounge won by default over Unidecor Dynamics to become the No. 1 semifinalist in the Inter-Commercial Open Non Rated A with a 4-1 record.
Moulinex also is 4-1 but had to settle for No. 2 by virtue of the winner over the other rule. Computer Diagnostic (3-2) and Marogong (3-2) complete the semifinal cast. Friendi Mobile sealed the last semis spot in Non-Rated Open B when it defeated Saudi Binladen Group D’ Inspectors 84-72 in the fifth game Thursday.
The victory put Friendi in a tie with its victim at 2-2. In addition to Friendi and Inspectors Sultanate Masiu and Petromin are the other qualifiers for the round of four. In other WPBL games, Shakba Makkah Taif overwhelmed Amanah Contracting Co. 118-54 to even its card at 3-3 while BTC-Baud Telecom Co. (4-2) blasted Duke Hammadi (1-5) 92-60 in Open Non Rated C.
Named Best Players were Shakba’s Amerol, BTC-Baud’s Wajeh and Friendi’s Batioca.
In the 10th KFAFH Inter-Department organized by United Filipino Workers of King Fahad Armed Forces Hospital (UFWORK) and the tournament within a tournament, Admin-Canon improved to 6-2 in the team standings after crushing BME 89-53 in the first game Thursday.
Engineering A (5-1) downed Nursing 70-63 in the second game.
The games Friday saw Warehouse (5-2) beat Dietary 71-63 and CSSD (3-4) beat HRD 69-63).
Meantime, Roxas said the Sky Freight-TFC has come on board as sponsor for both the ongoing tournament and the regional next month.
