Mi Ra Jung made her last tournament with the Dirab Ladies Group a memorable one when she won the Best Net title even as Georgia Coughlin, as expected, claimed Best Gross honors during the Radisson Blu Hotel Monthly Medal tournament at Dirab Golf & Country Club on the outskirts of Riyadh.
The event held last week was the last monthly medal of the 2011-2012 season with the annual awards presentation set for next Tuesday, according to Dirab Ladies Group captain Denise Holding.
Korean Jung had a sparkling round of 64 from her gross score of 81 and handicap of 17 to be the Best Net winner in the competition.
It was Jung’s last outing with the group as she and her husband will relocate to Dhahran. Yesterday she was given a farewell event at DGCC by Holding and her group.
Coughlin, a svelte 17-year-old from England who hits the ball a long way, played the first nine holes at 4-under before dropping a few shots coming home. Coughlin finished at 2-under 70 to post her fourth straight Best Gross crown. Sile McIlroy matched Jung’s gross score of 81 but with a lower handicap of 14 she had to settle for first place in Alpha Group on 67. Christine Bell was second on 71 from a gross 91 and handicap of 20. Third place went to 21-handicap Holding on 74. The Beta Group had Regina Jung winning first place on 75 with Monika Schiffer second on 77 and Weesaya Dhurberg third on 78.
Liz Lindman and Kazuko Nagaya were the winners in Omega Group with rounds of 67 and 73.
The awards for straight drive on No. 10 and closest to the pin went to Madele Burger and Holding respectively. The raffle prize winners were Regina Jung, May Biswas, Caroline Wright, Burger and Coughlin.
The Best Gross and Best Net winners as well as the three division champions each received a dinner-lunch voucher for two courtesy of Radisson Blu.
Present during the awards ceremony were District Manager Mohammed Benamar and Food & Beverage Manager Mohammed Ayman of Radisson Blu. DGCC Golf Manager Bouchaib El Jadiani also attended the ceremony.
