In September this year the Directorate General for Industrial Property at King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology granted 14 patents, of which three were for Saudi nationals and 11 for non-Saudis, in addition to six industrial design certificates. 
According to a report issued by the directorate, the Saudi nationals who obtained the patents are: Ahamad Almbrad for inventing the automated irrigation system for injection; Mohammed Abdul Rauf and Maher Altunsiy for inventing sulfur porcelain; and Najya Alzaibaqy and Nuha Zeleay for inventing a needle that diagnoses malaria and blood diseases.
The Al Madinah ‘News Bulletin’ report indicated that the directorate received during the same period 81 patent applications, including 26 requests by Saudi nationals and 55 by non-Saudis. The directorate also received 61 industrial design certificate requests. 
The directorate did not receive any request related to plant varieties.
