KSA, UAE hold customs talks

The 5th meeting between the Customs Department officials of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) kicked off in a two-day discussion in Riyadh on Monday.
The meeting was led by Director General of the Saudi Customs Department Salih Al-Khilaiwi and his UAE counterpart Khalid Al-Bustani, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
The discussions covered a number of topics, including a pile up of trucks at the joint borders, entry of counterfeit and adulterated goods and trafficking of banned items.
The meeting will discussed the latest bilateral customs issues, means of facilitating customs procedures at border points and exchange of consultancy and information between the two sister countries.
Last week, the Saudi Customs chief said his department had seized counterfeit and adulterated goods worth SR 763 million in 2012 , an increase of 65.2 percent compared to the number of goods seized in the previous year.
He said his department plans to organize the 3rd Arab forum on combating commercial fraud, counterfeiting and protection of intellectual property rights on March 3, 2013 in Riyadh.
