The recent launch of a political party in India by Arvind Kejriwal, a self-styled anti-corruption activist, did not come as a surprise for anyone who was closely keeping an eye of the movement for last one year. It seemed from the very beginning that Kejriwal’s ultimate aim was to take a plunge into politics. And there is a famous saying: “There is no other better business than politics.” But Kejriwal has failed to realize that you can never beat the system while being into the system. In order to change the system, you always have to go against the stream and oppose the ruling party and bring a revolution so as to bring the required change!
When expressed his will to form a political party, Anna Hazare, who is the leading face of the movement, decided to be firm on his decision of being away from politics. It seems Kejriwal has not understood why Hazare wanted to be away from politics. Just because if you’re contesting to form your own government, you’re still into the very same system and not away from it.
Kejriwal also fails to realize that in a country like India, people don’t trust the new institutions so easily. The biggest example is the Bharatiya Janata Party which is still struggling to unseat the current government, yet it has not achieved its aim in last 8 years.
When Kejriwal hits the campaign train for elections in 2014, he is also going to face the same problem of gaining good will so as to get elected. It is not a theory but a fact in India that, to gain good will you have to have some strong personality in your party so as to gain public trust and get elected. So on the basis of this fact, we can clearly say that this party is not going to gain the momentum required to form a ruling government. And if the party is not going to take the support of any other political party and tries to remain independent, then it is completely impossible for it to get elected. — Mohammed Abdul Majid, Jeddah
