This refers to the report "Society's attitude deters Saudi nurses" (July 16). Indeed, it is a grave problem and should be sorted out by mutual understanding.
First, we should look at what the determining factors are that are deviating Saudi women from this profession. If they think that this job is not as per their standard and dignity and that they may not earn respect in it, then they are mistaken.
No job is small or mean, it depends on the performance of the doer. If he or she performs the job in the best manner, then everyone will give respect owing to their proficiency in that particular domain.
Second, if Saudi women think that they are not well-versed in this field, they can earn expertise by working hard and learning the techniques from the experts in this field. Third, if Saudi women do not have a liking or interest for nursing, then they should not join it because without liking one's work, one cannot excel in it.
Fourth, if transportation is a deterrent, it can be sorted out by sharing transportation fairs with other female co-workers and this way, the expense will be affordable.
Fifth, if Saudi women think that the nursing profession does not fall in line with Islamic teachings, they can work exclusively for female patients only.
Undoubtedly, the nursing profession is a bit liberal, where chances of intimate relations with the doctors or male coworkers are very much possible, as we know from various newspaper reports. (Anees Lokhande, Alkhobar)
