I read with great interest the article “Running around in circles” (Dec. 17) by Osama Al-Sharif. I believe that the efforts made by the United States are nothing more than a charade. Had it been serious in resolving this lingering issue, it would not have vetoed dozens of resolutions in the Security Council. As a matter of fact, it is the blind support of the West that has emboldened Israel to such an extent that it no longer cares about any international law or global criticism.
Tel Aviv knows well that its greatest benefactors the United States and the United Kingdom will always be there to support it. Appointment of former British Premier Tony Blair as a peace envoy was a crude joke. This man is known for his anti-Islam views. How could we expect a fair judgment from a biased person?
Israeli elections are just round the corner. Truth be told, Israelis have also become fed up with the never-ending conflict. I urge all peace-loving Israelis and Palestinians to reject pro-war elements from both sides and make efforts to join hands and live side by side in perfect harmony. We should think about our children. What type of a world are we trying to leave behind for them?
