This is with reference to the report “Iran’s aggression focus of Obama-GCC summit” (May 13). Obama should heed the advice of the GCC leaders. The United States is once again about to make a blunder in the Middle East. The deal over the Iranian nuclear program is a kind of joke. It is basically aimed at giving Iran a new lease on life. Had the US and its western allies linked the deal to Iran’s behavior in the region, the Gulf leaders would have welcomed it without hesitation. Currently it seems that the West is turning a blind eye to the Iranian role in the Middle East. I believe that the Saudi Arabia-led military intervention in Yemen was the most appropriate thing to do. The Gulf leaders should tell the world that they are fully capable of protecting their strategic interests and can defend themselves without any foreign help. US President Barack Obama should revisit his views over Iran and its controversial nuclear program. — Rafay Shaikh, Dammam
