A celebration of art at Gallery Design

An exhibition in Riyadh titled ‘DESIGNED’ spotlights on works by both established and emerging regional artists and designers. The event presented by Gallery Design, the first multi-brand showroom and retail space in the Middle East providing contemporary solutions in furniture, lighting, flooring and kitchens, is the first edition of a series of group exhibitions.
Opened in 2011, Gallery Design houses a carefully edited selection of furniture from Minotti, Walter Knoll, Poliform, Poltrona Frau, Bulthaup, Porada, Donghia, Flex Form and Moroso and interior accessories and accents from Tai Ping, Foscarini and others in its impressive 4,500 sq. meter building. Many of these brands are debuting in the Kingdom and even the region for the very first time.
Gallery Design addresses the changing tastes and lifestyles in the region — the desire to adapt to modern living, embrace international design standards and to mix contemporary furniture with classic pieces.
Launched in 2012, DESIGNED has been organized to support both established and up-and-coming artists and designers from the region by providing a platform to display their work.
The selected artists and designers are from an eclectic mix of places, presenting work in a wide range of media, from installation and photography to mixed media and product design. They include Reem Al-Faisal, Lulwah Al-Humoud, Jaffar Al-Oraibi, Noura Bouzo, Ayman Yossri Daydban, Basmah Felemban, Waheed Mahllulah, Hassan Meer, Khalid Shafar, Mohammed Sharkawi and SHEILA. Their works are presented alongside international brands currently stocked at the gallery.
Gallery Design’s silver-grey granite building features an oversized door, custom made in Germany in solid cast aluminum with a stainless steel frame while bespoke silver lighting fixtures by Lebanese-based PS Lab float on a pool of water along the front.
The interior of Gallery Design spans over two floors, with marble flooring, wood paneling and white walls that feature furniture accents and art.
On the ground floor, furniture and products are displayed along each side of the central corridor with additional furniture and fabric offerings extending upstairs. The brands at Gallery Design — all market leaders in design — have been carefully selected for their quality. Like a true gallery, the offerings change to adapt to customers’ tastes and current trends in contemporary design.
