Police of the Al-Mahd region in the Madinah Province nabbed an Asian expatriate who had robbed a European visitor of his money and other belongings, leaving him stranded at a gas station on Al-Hijra Road between Makkah and Madinah.
Narrating the incident, spokesman for the Madinah police Col. Fahd Al-Ghannam said the European visitor had made an agreement with the Asian expatriate to be transported to Makkah from Madinah in his own private car for a certain sum. He said at a gas station the expatriate stopped the car, and when the European visitor got out of the car to stretch his legs, the expat sped away with the visitor’s luggage containing SR 27,000 in cash, a mobile phone and other valuables.
The spokesman said that although the visitor did not provide much help in describing the perpetrator or his license plate, the police were able to track him down in less than 48 hours.
Director of the Madinah police Maj. Gen. Saud Al-Ahmadi asked all citizens, expatriates and visitors to never take rides from strangers. He asked them to instead use public transportation, taxis and licensed buses so as not to face similar situations.
