Indian community leaders commended Malarvadi, a cultural organization of Keralite children, for collecting Rs 400,000 (SR 27,400) for the treatment of a child suffering from a chronic disease.
“This is really amazing,” said Syed Masood Ahmed, principal of the International Indian School Jeddah (IISJ), who officiated the fund handover ceremony at Impala Garden in Sharafiya district recently.
“I did not know our children would be able to collect such a huge amount within a short span. They have done a wonderful job,” said Mohan Balan, who proposed the fund to support the child’s treatment.
Malarvadi leaders handed over the fund to Mohan Balan and Mirza Sharief to the applause of a huge crowd of parents and well-wishers who witnessed the event.
“When the children took the initiative to collect funds for the treatment of one of their friends, they received big support from their parents,” said Abdul Shukoor Ali, a Malarvadi patron who presided over the function.
Addressing the gathering, the IISJ principal reminded parents of their important duty in providing proper guidance to their children and inculcating moral values in their minds. Marwan Kanan of the Industrial City Dawa Office, Mirza Sharief, and Ibrahim Chamnad gave felicitations commending the children and their parents for the good work.
Muhammad Ashraf later distributed prizes to winners of Ramadan projects during a ceremony presided over by V.M. Safarullah. It was followed by a colorful display of talents by Malarvadi children, as they presented a variety of cultural programs including oppana dance, miming, group songs, and fusion. Event coordinator TM Abdul Aziz thanked the participants for making the program a big success.
