The GCC ministerial committee for postal service, telecommunications and IT yesterday held its 21st meeting at the GCC premises in Riyadh, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
Saudi Minister of Telecommunications and IT Muhammad Jameel Mulla, who chaired the meeting, expressed his hope the delegates would work out solutions that would contribute to the enhancement of telecommunication services in the GCC countries.
On his part, GCC Secretary-General Abdul Latif Al-Zayyani appreciated the achievements realized during the past 31 years at all levels.
His address, read out by the assistant secretary-general for economic affairs, Abdullah Al-Shibli, underscored efforts undertaken by the GCC postal, telecommunications and IT ministerial committee on how to deal efficiently with regional and international developments.
The GCC ministers will explore topics related to post and telecommunications in the GCC states, including agreement on a mechanism to allow voice over the Internet Protocol (IP), the transition from the IP fourth version (IPV4) to the sixth version (IPV6), the interchangeability between GCC mobile phone networks and the shift from analogue to digital broadcasting.
