The all new WPBL (Western Province Basketball League) 16th Conference went full blast on its third week with a heavy 10-game schedule at the weekend at the Ahmed Khaki Sports Complex (Orca) basketball court here.
The main league features two games in each of the two playdates of the week and inserted into the schedule are three matches from the UFWORK-KFAFH (United Filipino Workers-King Fahd Armed Forces Hospital) 10th Inter-Department.
Thursday, the proceedings started with Porter crushing Dietary 80-61 in the tournament within a tournament. Bonilla and Andaya were named Best Players of the game.
Engineering B Falcons made not a few fans that gathered around the court shake their heads in disbelief when they overwhelmed overmatched BME 74-22 in what could go down as probably the most lopsided result at the Khaki court. Jabonete was the Best Player of the game.
In the third game Thursday, Nursing defeated HRD Tigers 53-50 with Cansino picked as the Best Player.
In the main games Thursday , Nesma Holdings Co. Ltd., coached by Baloloy Rojo, defeated Ate Aida’s Catering 95-83 for its second straight victory while Saudi Binladen Group D’ Inspectors of Rene Lim downed Cris Magno’s Saudi Jet Aviation 79-74.
The Best Player honors went to Mercado and Cera.
It was the first win in two games for Saudi Binladen while Ate Aida’s went down to its first defeat in two games.
Also debuting with victories Friday in the all new tournament sponsored by Friendi Mobile were BTC Baud Telecom and Unidecor Dynamics.
Baud Telecom, coached by Ian Diez, emerged 77-74 winner over Nexus of Jong Lim. Galzote was named Best Player.
Unidecor of Louie de Guzman and Freddie Juance hammered out an 88-85 win over West Tower Contracting Corp. under coach Biwang. Nonoy Soliveres and George Pascual shared Best Player honors.
KFAFH games Friday produced another lopsided result courtesy of Admin Canon, which crushed Academic Affairs 96-68, in the second game with Dela Vega as the Best Player.
Warehouse Bodegeros defeated Engineering 72-68 and Housekeeping B beat CSSD 77-72. The Best Player awardees were Arrachado and Dela Vega.
The WPBL is under a new leadership with Frank James Roxas as commissioner. With Roxas on the team are : Jerry Lagrimas, secretary general; Bong Suing, finance; Jun Mejia, marketing; and Lansang, BOG, technical advisers.
