Former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic has begun his defense at his war crimes trial in The Hague by denying the charges and saying he should be instead be rewarded for “reducing suffering”! He has told the court that he was a “tolerant man.”
Yes, he is right, he relieved the suffering of more than 7,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys in the Srebrenica by massacring them all in 1995. He may be claiming Nobel Peace Prize, when he told the court that he should be rewarded instead of being tried for war crimes. We wonder why a man who has done so much to the mankind was on the run for 13 years until he was arrested in 2008.
The Srebrenica massacre is considered to be the worst atrocity in Europe since the end of World War II. There are many survivors and relatives of the war victims, who have traveled all the way to The Hague, from Bosnia to see the trial of the man they hold most responsible for their suffering, deliver his statement. Each of Karadzic’s statements was met with cries of dismay, disgust and disbelief from the public gallery. No amount of provocation,
Karadzic tries to justify for his action, could ever be used as an excuse for the evil savagery that was done in Bosnia.
Srebrenica is a blot on civilization across the whole world not just in Europe. Serb followers of this evil man should be thoroughly ashamed of what was done there in their country’s name. — S.H. Moulana, Riyadh
