Abdullah Alrubaish, Dammam University rector, has launched a campaign to focus on educating students on library services and encourage them to deal with the electronic service which will be provided at the new library.
Among those who attended the campaign were university officials, and deans of colleges and students.
“The new central library at the university will be ready by mid-semester next year. The total cost is SR 100 million, of which SR 86 million will be spent on construction of the building,” said Alrubaish.
He added: "I am glad to see the interest of students in libraries.”
Students will use electronic service while borrowing books and returning them to the library. The library will have 300 computer points and five computer labs, as well as halls and classes equipped with the latest technology.
Alrubaish said: “We have signed three contracts with STC, Zain and Mobiley in order to provide service at the university. The computer and science college will provide wireless service at the university soon.”
Raed Bukhari, dean of libraries, said: “We want to target all students through this campaign and make them aware of the importance of searching through latest technologies.
“We have a system called ‘QR CODE,’ which will help them download online applications of the library easily.”
