Saher is for safety

Although few motorists are trying various dubious ways to avoid being detected by covering their number plates by installing carriages, most of the law-abiding people welcome the Saher system and appreciate its benefits by way of safety.
The news item ‘Saher reduces traffic accidents by 37%’ (March 16) proves beyond any doubt that it is introduced for the motorists’ safety and to discipline the unruly ones on the public road.
I would like to share a lighter moment, which in fact happened while taking my first grader grandson home in my car.
The little one, realizing that I am little bit slower than his dad, asked me, “Grandpa, why are you so slow?” I told him, “Darling, there are cameras everywhere, they will take a picture and that will cost me 300 Saudi Riyals.”
Surprised little one replied: “My dada took me to the studio and took three pictures and he took only 20 Riyals for them.” I burst out laughing and almost came to a halt in the middle of the road and picked up again only when someone tooted the horn from behind.
I would have related this story to dozens of my friends and now I am sharing it with you. How amusing these innocent children are, sometimes! — S.H. Moulana, Riyadh
