Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah yesterday received an invitation from Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani to attend the Arab League summit in Doha on March 26-27.
Qatari Ambassador Ali bin Abdullah Al-Mahmoud handed the invitation to Deputy Foreign Minister Prince Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah during a meeting in Riyadh.
King Abdullah, meanwhile, received a call from Egyptian President Muhammad Mursi.
Mursi has also received an invitation to attend the summit. According to Al-Ahram daily, Mursi said he was looking forward to what can be achieved at the Doha summit while noting the region’s “critical and challenging” situation.
An Arab League official underlined the significance of the Doha summit, saying it would give the Palestinian cause strong support by adopting effective resolutions. The Syrian crisis will figure high on the summit agenda.
