Security forces have arrested a gang that stole SR 1.2 million from the safe of Jarir bookstore north of Jeddah.
About SR 700,000 of the total amount stolen were recovered, said spokesman of Jeddah Police First Lt. Nawaf Al-Bouq to a local newspaper. He added that police arrested the thieves in record time once they received word of the incident.
Al-Salamah District police station conducted primary investigations and found that the gang, whose members are aged between 19-28 years stole the safe with the help of an employee working there. The employee also helped them tamper with surveillance cameras.
The gang took the safe with them to a resort at the Jeddah coast and took the money before throwing away the empty safe in the sea.
Police investigation has found that the employee took a five-day leave from work and returned to his home country. Upon his return, he was interrogated, after which he confessed his involvement in the robbery with the other suspects.
