Two hundred orphans from various charities took part in a fire prevention drill here Tuesday to mark International Civil Defense Day.
Civil Defense personnel taught the youngsters how to use fire extinguishers and also explained what to do in the event of a fire or disaster.
The event was organized by Aramco. The two-week awareness program started recently at Arabian Mall and will continue until March 30.
“We came here to learn how to act if there’s a fire, why smoke detectors are important and how to help others,” said Akeel Ahmed, a young visitor. “We enjoyed learning the fire drill.
The man from the Civil Defense taught us how to act if a fire breaks out at home or somewhere else. My friends and I really enjoyed the program and we want to join the Civil Defense when we grow up,” added Ahmed.
Another visitor, Abdul Rahman, also enjoyed the event. “This exhibition provided us with information about fire alarms and fire detectors, but also gave us a chance to learn about the life and duties of a Civil Defense officer.
We participated in a wonderful fire prevention drill and also got the chance to meet other children and make friends,” he added.
Samir Nasruddin, the director of Aramco Affairs, said that the company was committed to working with orphans and persons with special needs as part of its corporate social responsibility program.
He said the campaign will spread awareness about the importance of a smoke detector in the home, and offer information on the latest fire prevention methods.
