A charitable village for the visually impaired will be set up in the Osfan area in the outskirts of Jeddah spanning an area of around 2.2 million sq meters, said Ahmed Mohammed Ali, chairman of the board of the Ibsar Charity Society.
The Ibsar Charity Village, previously known as the Ibsar Model Complex, will cost SR 350 million and is to be launched in the first quarter of 2014, he added.
In a statement to Arab News after a board meeting at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Jeddah, he said proceeds of the project in the first of five years of operation are projected to hit SR 170 million.
The project will include a factory, 50 percent of which will be run by the visually impaired, he said. The village will also have different services, such as a unit for poor vision rehabilitation, an early intervention center, a technical support and training center, a mosque, a conference hall, staff housing and other investment facilities such as a shopping center, a gas station, a fitness club, a party hall and a supply unit.
