Plight of Muslims

Injustice in the world is a phenomenon that has spanned entire humanity. Be it the killing of one of the sons of Adam and Eve by his own blood, or the loss of countless innocent lives in conflict zones today. What we see in these unfortunate events is a pattern of oppression in which the powerful and the rich continue to usurp the rights of the poor.
For the past 65 years or so, the Palestinians have been subjugated by a brutal occupying force that continues to build settlements on Palestinian land till today. However, the world maintains its silence and the weak die in their thousands. The recent compromise by Muslim clerics in Sri Lanka to stop labeling meet as halal (lawful) or haram (unlawful) in order for harmony to prevail, the unjustified persecution of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, and the loss of countless loss of lives in the two-year-old conflict in Syria, should wake up Muslims from their deep slumber and provoke them to make a positive difference.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), among others, has raised its voice to the plight of Muslims around the world, but there is a lot that needs to be done. The least that we can do is to pray for victims of such oppression. We can also send some aid to the devastated areas. We need to save the oppressed from the oppressor regardless of color, cast, or creed, as that is what humanity and our religion teach us. — Naqi Haider Rizvi, Dammam
