Call for religious dialogue

Newly elected Pope Francis has called for greater dialogue between Christianity and Islam. Unquestionable, this is a welcome move from the Vatican, principally because while speaking of dialogue with many religions, the pole particularly saw the necessity to pave the way for better relations with the Muslim world. He has urged the West to intensify dialogue with Islam.
In my opinion the Muslim world should positively respond to this call. A hand extended in friendship must always be grasped with warmth.
Francis made his appeal in an address to diplomats accredited to the Vatican, sending a message through them to the leaders of the 180 states with which the Vatican has diplomatic relations. It is heartening to note that the first challenge the pope has taken up to meet after his election to the high office is to encourage interaction and dialogue. The world today, devastated by radicalism and misunderstood notions of religious struggle, is desperately looking for a healing hand.
Pope Francis has sent a message of harmony, which other religions and spiritual frontrunners would do well to emulate and inspire in each of their communities for the safety and security of a better tomorrow. — Shaukat Naeem Ghumman, Riyadh
