Frightening silence

The frightening silence observed by the Sri Lanka’s political leaders on the prevailing tense situation in the country is not only bad but it is disturbing too. It leaves one to wonder whether they are for it or against it. Mankind has witnessed more destruction in its attitude of intolerance than the destruction caused by natural calamities like flood, fire and cyclone.
It is the duty of every Lankan to work toward eradicating this menace of intolerance. The government should take all necessary steps to build trust and harmony among different religious and ethnic communities. I propose a big religious amity campaign should be held throughout the country with the full backing of the electronic and print media.
We need action from all patriotic citizens since the country is going through the most difficult time in the island’s history. We cannot afford to waste any more time since every hour is precious! Let’s act now! — S.H. Moulana, Riyadh
