The country’s traffic authorities have found several employees of government departments and security agencies breaking traffic laws by drifting, painting their windshields with dark paint and concealing, or removing number plates, a local newspaper reported.
The General Traffic Department said in a statement that the culprits were caught breaking the law through its extensive checkpoints, inspections, mobile vehicles and secret raids. It said it would ensure stiff penalties for offenders.
It called on all security staff to distance themselves from such actions because they are role models for citizens and residents. Maj. Gen. Abdul Rahman Al-Muqbil, director general of the department, said that some government bodies were not addressing this problem by holding such persons, who are young, accountable for their irresponsible actions.
The statement, which was circulated to all traffic departments across the country, stressed that all security bodies should monitor their vehicles and staff using these vehicles, and ensure heavy penalties for offenders.
