BEIJING: State media report that a large-scale landslide has trapped at least 83 workers in a gold mining area in China’s Tibetan region.
China Central Television said yesterday that the landslide occurred in the morning in the Maizhokunggar county of Lhasa, the regional capital, and that rescue efforts were underway.
The official Xinhua News Agency said that the workers in Lhasa’s Maizhokunggar county worked for a subsidiary of the China National Gold Group Corp.
Doctors reached at the local county hospital say they were told to prepare to receive survivors but none have arrived.
County officials reached by phone confirmed the landslide had occurred but had no further details. Calls to the company’s general phone line rang unanswered.
